SWARM’ing the Community – a Week of Service and Engagement

Iowa Swarm Collective to Host Week of Service in the Iowa City Area

Iowa City, Iowa – SWARM will host the inaugural SWARM’ing the Community, a week of giving back in partnership with area nonprofit organizations. Multiple community service events will take place throughout the week of October 10th and will allow our Iowa student-athletes to meet and engage with youth in the community.

The week will kick off on Monday, October 10th, in support of United Way of Washington and Johnson counties. Athletes will compile literacy kits for early elementary school students. This event welcomes all SWARM members to volunteer alongside athletes as well.

The SWARM’ing the Community week will continue with our local schools. SWARM has partnered with the Iowa City Community School District’s Community Cares program where athletes will greet students on their way into school to encourage positive mentor connections. SWARM athletes will also work with Big Brother Big Sisters and the after-school programs in Iowa City and Solon – meeting and connecting with the youth from the school who have been matched with an adult mentor.

“I’m ecstatic to see how many student-athletes want to become more involved in helping the community,” SWARM CEO Brad Heinrichs says, “These events are a great way for SWARM to impact and engage with local charity organizations. I am excited to see the positive impact this week will have for our nonprofit partners in the community.”

The week will end on Saturday, October 15th, where athletes will aid Adaptive Sports Iowa at the Grizzlies Invitational Basketball Tournament – part of the Youth Wheelchair Basketball Association – being held in Coralville.

SWARM is a name, image, and likeness collective and nonprofit organization that supports University of Iowa football and men’s and women’s basketball athletes. SWARM works with multiple local nonprofits and provides engagement opportunities for student-athletes. SWARM members can make a monthly or one time donation to support these athletes and their community service.
