MESA Foundation Selects Basepath as Exclusive NIL Operations Software
MESA Foundation supports San Diego State Men’s & Women’s Basketball
San Diego, California (November 8, 2023) - Basepath, the frontrunner in NIL operations software for collectives, universities, and student-athletes, has been exclusively selected by MESA Foundation, a collective created to support charitable causes throughout San Diego by connecting student-athletes from the Men’s and Women’s basketball teams at San Diego State University (SDSU) to use their platforms and influence through NIL opportunities to make an impact on the community.
"We are thrilled to partner with Basepath, a leader in NIL operations software, to elevate our support for SDSU Aztec student-athletes and for our organization as a whole," says MESA Foundation President and Founder Jeff Smith. "Basepath allows for an extremely simplified way in which we communicate with our student-athletes and promotes accountability in a straight forward, app based program that allows us to continue our focus on growing our efforts in the community and with our expanding base of loyal Aztec supporters."
In this new partnership with Basepath, MESA Foundation will harness Basepath's athlete operations software, for assigning tasks to athletes, analyzing all of their activity on a dashboard, automated contracts through a DocuSign integration, university compliance and a wallet app for student-athletes to consolidates their NIL deals, income, tax estimations and financial support. The software automates NIL contract management, ensuring compliance with local, state, and NCAA regulations and guidelines.
By harnessing Basepath's technology, Aztec student-athletes will now have the tools they need to succeed in the evolving NIL landscape. This technology is used by other collectives such as University of Louisville 502Circle Collective and Foundation, University of Minnesota Collective Dinkytown, Florida State University Rising Spear Collective and over 40 more collectives across the country.
Most recently, the San Diego State athletic department agreed to a multi-year partnership with MESA Foundation to become the first name, image, and likeness (NIL) collective of SDSU athletics. This partnership is designed to help the 501(c)(3) raise awareness and continue to connect with charitable organizations throughout the year. The added visibility will help build outreach and maintain relationships during critical periods of the basketball season, including marquee regular season matchups, conference and postseason tournaments.
San Diego's MESA Foundation bridges the worlds of Aztec student-athletes and the city's nonprofit community by facilitating partnerships between student-athletes and local charitable organizations, offering an avenue for these athletes to contribute their influence and energy in various capacities. These collaborations are underscored by stipends sourced from the athletes' NIL, creating a win-win scenario that supports both the athletes and the causes they're passionate about. With a history of engagement in the San Diego community, the Aztecs have become synonymous with excellence and dedication. MESA harnesses this legacy, inviting community members to join the Aztec Family by making contributions that directly impact student-athletes. As MESA extends an invitation to nonprofit organizations in the San Diego area, it opens a gateway for partnerships that merge sports and social good.
Since its establishment in Fall of 2022, MESA student-athletes have supported the Walk for ALS in Mission Bay, The San Diego Food Bank where they handed out food to over 200 families and brought awareness to San Diego’s underfed community, hosted youth basketball skills clinics for local Native American tribes through InterTribal Sports Program, another for military children at Camp Pendleton through Semper Fit Program and also at San Dieguito Boys and Girls Club. With the athlete’s social media presence as well as their attendance at the Walk for ALS event, the organization exceeded its target raise by nearly $150,000 with a total of $439,000. Most recently MESA Foundation hosted a two-day Blood Drive on campus in partnership with the San Diego Blood Bank to drive awareness for Sickle Cell Awareness Month. 73 donors were registered to give blood, and 64 pints were collected at these drives. This will potentially save the lives of 192 people in the community.
Basepath's integration with MESA’s apparel provider ensures the availability of exclusive merchandise for MESA Foundation members. The integration with communication platforms such as Mailchimp and Twilio Sendgrid enables direct personalized communication with members through email and text messages, fostering a stronger sense of community and engagement.
"We’re excited to announce this partnership with MESA Foundation, whose commitment to supporting Aztec student athletes' personal growth and community engagement is unwavering," stated Basepath Co-Founder and CEO Thomas Thomas Jr. "We are excited to collaborate with MESA Foundation, enriching the San Diego State University campus experience and fostering a strong spirit of community engagement."
