Davidson Athletics and The Brandr Group Launch Group Licensing for Scholar-Athletes

The Brandr Group

DAVIDSON, N.C. – Davidson College Athletics and The Brandr Group (TBG) have established a group licensing program for Davidson scholar-athletes, the two announced today. This partnership paves the way for these scholar-athletes to profit off their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) through a number of opportunities that will be co-branded with the school’s official trademarks and logos.

“We are very excited to partner with The Brandr Group to enhance NIL opportunities for our scholar-athletes,” said Davidson Director of Athletics Chris Clunie. “They are a nationally recognized company that aligns with our values and believes in navigating this space the right way.”

"As the location of one of our two company offices and the alma mater of several members of our team, Davidson is truly woven into the fabric of The Brandr Group," said Wesley Haynes, TBG CEO. "We're thrilled to be partnering with Davidson College Athletics on a group licensing program that will enable its scholar-athletes to monetize their NIL through co-branded merchandising and sponsorship opportunities. It's an honor to be part of the Davidson community, and we look forward to delivering for Davidson scholar-athletes and their passionate fanbase."

In addition to its corporate presence in Davidson and the Charlotte area, TBG is excited to launch an internship program exclusively for Davidson scholar-athletes. Each year, four Wildcat athletes will be selected to work as interns in TBG’s Davidson office, with a specific focus on creating opportunities for underrepresented scholar-athletes.

The group licensing program collaboration between Davidson and TBG allows for the collective use of scholar-athletes' NIL in licensing and marketing programs, co-branded with Davidson logos and marks. Scholar-athletes will have the option to voluntarily join a group licensing program. Participation in the program will not limit any scholar-athletes’ NIL rights in their individual licensing and marketing activities.

TBG, a brand management, marketing and licensing agency, will manage and administer the program as well as create licensing opportunities on behalf of the scholar-athletes. With decades of collective management experience for some of the world's largest brands, TBG also manages group rights programs for the NFL, NBA and MLB players associations in the college space.

Across the professional sports landscape, products that combine team logos and player names and numbers have accounted for a significant amount of licensed merchandise sales for decades, and this program will unlock similar opportunities for scholar-athletes at the collegiate level.

Fans can expect to be able to purchase official Davidson merchandise, including team jerseys with the name and number of players who have joined the respective group licensing program, once TBG enters into agreements with applicable school trademark licensees.
