HBCU Star Malachi Wideman Joins NIL Company MOGL
HBCU Jackson State football and basketball player enters partnership with MOGL
FEBRUARY 2022 -- MOGL, a minority-owned and impact-focused online marketplace that connects businesses and brands with collegiate athletes for opportunities to monetize their name, image and likeness (“NIL”) has hired Jackson State’s Football Wide Receiver and Basketball Guard Malachi Wideman on board as a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) Athlete Development Partner. Wideman currently plays for Coach Deion “Prime Time” Sanders.
In his new role, the two-sport athlete will assist MOGL in understanding life as an HBCU athlete and providing recommendations on how to improve the athlete experience. Wideman’s responsibilities include joining MOGL in developing the platform and providing resources geared toward supporting HBCU athletes.
“MOGL is excited for this partnership to amplify its commitment to empowering all NCAA athletes not just those at Power 5 schools,” said Brandon Wimbush, MOGL Co-Founder and Chief Athletic Officer. “Wideman will help MOGL ensure that HBCU athletes’ voices are heard.”
“MOGL was built to empower historically marginalized college athletes and provide a free resource to help them source deals in a safe and secure way,” said MOGL Co-Founder and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Ayden Syal. “Wideman’s voice and insights will be instrumental for the MOGL team as we grow and continue to serve all athletes in this new era.”
Jackson State has recently made numerous headlines as the #1 high school football player in the nation according to 247 Sports in Travis Hunter committed to play for the Tiger. In addition, the Jackson State football coach is none other than Deion “Prime Time” Sanders.
In football, Wideman played in 11 games in his first season and caught 34 passes for 540 receiving yards. He led the Tigers' receivers with 12 touchdowns.
In basketball, Wideman has played in 8 games and averaged 7.9 points per contest.
“Wideman is a budding two-sport star for Jackson State,” reported a recent Sports Illustrated article about the partnership. “His thrilling receptions on the gridiron and "human highlight film" slam dunks make him an extremely marketable student-athlete.”
In MOGL’s efforts to increase the representation of underrepresented communities, MOGL is also working with RISE, a national nonprofit that educates and empowers the sports community to eliminate racial discrimination, champion social justice and improve race relations.
