Horseshoe Collective Partners with Alumni for Pledge Program

The Horseshoe Collective

BOISE, Idaho - The Horseshoe Collective will partner with Bronco Football alumni to launch a campaign that will impact the defensive line beginning with the 2024 season, the collective announced Friday. Participating individuals can pledge a dollar amount on a per-sack basis, with funds being distributed equally amongst current members of the defensive line.

Through a grassroots initial launch among Bronco defensive line alumni, the program has already raised more than $600 per sack. Since joining the Mountain West for the 2011 season, Boise State has averaged 34 sacks per season, not counting the COVID-shortened year of 2020. As such, were the Broncos to reach their season average in 2024, the committed pledges would equate to more than $20,000.

“The goal of the 2024 sack fund is to be able to create a way for former Bronco defensive linemen - and the general public - to impact the current roster,” former Boise State defensive lineman Sam McCaskill (2012-16) said. “This program will impact the entire room, not just the starters, and I am excited that we’re going to be able to tie this into a community service opportunity to bring current and former linemen together for a good cause.

“Launching the program has already provided us with an opportunity to connect with the current student-athletes, and connecting the past and the present - so guys understand the standard and what it took to get to where we are today - is important. I am thankful for the efforts of The Horseshoe Collective in bringing this idea to life, and I am excited to see alumni from other position groups create something similar here at Boise State.”

In order to receive funds from the program, current members of the program will join Bronco Football Alumni - and other supporters of the program - for a community service event with the Idaho Foodbank following the conclusion of the season.

“This is a phenomenal example of how those who have put their blood, sweat and tears into a program can continue to find ways to provide a meaningful impact after their time in blue and orange uniforms has passed,” The Horseshoe Collective Executive Director Joe Nickell said. “The beauty about what Sam and his fellow defensive linemen have created is that this will also provide community impact, and I’m excited to see that come to fruition and grow.”

Fans interested in contributing to the sack drive can make a pledge by emailing horseshoecollectiveintern@gmail.com, and The Horseshoe Collective will follow-up with an invoice after the conclusion of the season.
