These services will be provided as a direct benefit of the student-athlete's name, image, and likeness (NIL).

On the announcement, CEO of Micconope 1851 Mike Underwood states, “We are extremely excited about bringing this resource to the student-athletes of Florida State. We recognized early that NIL can do far more than provide just monetary earnings." Added board member and fellow alum Allen Beyer, “This is what NIL should be about. The effects of accessing career resources will pay dividends to these young people long after their collegiate careers are over.” Regarding the value of providing these services, Underwood says, “Early on, we recognized that we wanted to enhance the long-term goals of the student-athletes in a sustainable way. We were also aware that many student-athletes had never had a traditional job because of their commitment to academics and sports, which puts them at a disadvantage to other jobseekers who in most instances have some level of employment history.” Beyer went on to add, “The statistics have shown that 98.8% of collegiate athletes never play professional sports. The LASER Center is a way for us to acknowledge the 98.8% and their athletic contributions to our university”. With respect to the timing of the Center’s opening Underwood says, “We are in full swing to be opened and fully staffed by the beginning of April and certainly before Spring graduation.” Beyer goes on to conclude, “The launch of the LASER Center is something we all can be proud of. Hopefully, some other universities will follow our lead.”
