Last summer, the Student-Athlete Endorsement Rights Act allowed Illinois college athletes to monetize their Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) — and college sports were suddenly changed forever. Since then, the Illini Guardians fan collective has emerged as a national leader in the new world of NIL, and again flexes its leadership with today’s announcement of a new subscription model to support Fighting Illini student-athletes at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urbana.

Available through the Illini Guardians website (www.illiniguardians.com), the new subscription program offering includes contribution levels from $30 per month to $1,000 per month. In return, subscribers receive t-shirts, jerseys, autographed items, access to exclusive events, and more. All profits generated from subscriptions are consolidated to support future NIL opportunities between Illini Guardians and student-athletes that will be centered on community service and philanthropy.

“A subscription model does two things,” said Illini Guardians co-founder, Adam Fleischer. “First, it inspires Illini fans to pool their financial resources, so that even small contributions can collectively create a massive NIL war chest. Second, our subscription program creates key engagement for Illini fans to obtain autographed merchandise, invitations to exclusive meetings with players, and the funding of community activities that enable our student-athletes to give back to the communities that comprise Illini Nation.”

“Illini Guardians exists to create NIL opportunities that also elevate our community,” said organization co- founder Louis Margaglione. "We recently contracted with over 100 student-athletes from every varsity program to elevate awareness of mental health self-care. Just before that, we contracted with student- athletes to engage youth on Chicago's south side in creating art celebrating MLK. We want Fighting Illini fans to be proud of the way their contributions to Illini Guardians are used to promote stewardship to one's community."

Illini Guardians programs are intended to not only benefit communities, but to provide NIL earning potential that stands as an example of effective NIL programming.

“To build the championships, continuity, and community that Illini fans crave and deserve, we need fans to subscribe to Illini Guardians,” said Creg McDonald, a co-founder of Illini Guardians.
